A REAL
TREAT
FOR HK

The fans that Kenji made
when he appeared here in
December 1980 were out in
force, hoping for a repent of
his breathtaking perfor-
mances, and they were not
disappointed. Kenji is so
pretty, his style is so out-
ragous, and his voice is
undeniably good.
He holds the crowd
enthralled alone for two
hours, and during his week-
end performances did
numerous encores as his
loyal fans screamed hope-
fully for more.
This time in Hongkong,
Kenji is presenting new
material. His own favorites
from the Japanese modern
hits, and many songs he
sang were new to Hongkong audiences.
He sang mostly ballad
type songs, with a great deal
of feeling, so that even
those who didin't under-
stand the words, which was
most of the Hongkong
audiences, could have no
doubt as to the meanings.
Backed up by a superb
six-piece band, including a
rather wonderful tenor sax,
Kenji shows more maturity
in his songs and his music.
Although still outragous, he
is not the crazy boy who
caused a near riot last time
in Hongkong.
If anything, he is better,
musically and presentation wise,
and his show is a treat
for anyone.
He makes his entrance
amongst smoke and phsy-
cadelic lights, dressed in a
flamboyant white tuxede
outfit, which he praceeds to
remove piece by piece
during his numbers. To the
disappointment of his girl
fans, he dosen't take it all
off, but eventurlly slips out
for a change, while his back-
up group treat the fans to
some great music.
Kenji returns in a gold
fringed jacket and bronze
pants, and for the final
numbers, dons his white
tuxedo once again.
Kenji is a real treat for
Hongkong audiences. It's
rare to catch an entertainer
who puts so much, heart
and soul into what he is doing. |
