Carel Kraayenhof can be considered one of the best tango performers in the world.
‘Memorias De Cuba’ is the latest album from dutch Tango sensation Bandoneon player, who performed at the Dutch Royal Wedding in 2002 and reduced Princess Maxim to tears. The ‘Tango Royal’ album went on to sell over 100,000 copies.
On this album Kraayenhof focuses on a Cuban flavour to the Tango, and he has dedicated the album to the old Cuban Maestros. Meeting up with artists from the Buena Vista Social club help inspire this album. He explores the combined heritage of Cuban and Argentinian tango, and blends tango with salsa rhythms. Kraayenhof’s bandoneon leads the way, backed by authentic Cuba musicians and a full orchestra.
The tracks have been selected to show Cuban heritage and include some traditional songs and one self composed by Kraayenhof. Prominent dutch vocalists, Paskal Jakobsen and Trijntje Oosterhuis, guest on ‘Pedacito de Papel’ and ‘Lagrimas Negras’.
