曲中描述旧金山当时的轮廓，和嬉皮生活的情形。该曲是嬉皮的象征歌曲，在发际配上花朵是对和平的礼赞。因为在60年代的美国嬉皮运动中，爱与和平的标榜，就是以花卉作为象征。嬉皮是最典型的和平主义者，他们被美国参与越南战争的事件所激怒，他们以无暴力的抗议行动进行反击，以花为图腾旗帜及精神象征，喊出"反对越南战争"、"爱与和平"、"不要战争、只要做爱"等口号，在示威板、告示牌上大做文章。在他们的抗议中没有暴力，只是保持沉默、笑颜与无限的苦闷无奈。
